‘Lakas bet must be unifying force’

While the ruling Lakas-CMD party is still suffering from a scarcity of winnable presidential candidates in the 2010 elections, Speaker Prospero Nograles thinks the best candidate should be somebody who can be a unifying force in the country’s divisive politics.

“We should have a candidate who is not only a strong contender, but one who can become the nation’s unifying force, one who rejects the politics of hate and one who can remove the poison of politics that has left us in disarray as a nation,” the Lakas president said.

“So much time and resources are wasted due to vicious partisanship. We are a country with so much potential but is being poisoned by too much politics. Our next leader should be someone who can heal our wounds and one who can unite our people,” Nograles said.

He added that while there are many names floating about as presidential candidates, most of them belong to the opposition.

“Lakas-CMD is carefully weighing its choices so that the party’s candidate will be the best among the rest,” he said. philstar.com
